Heavy rain and flash flooding in central Vietnam have claimed at least 16 lives, with more water levels continuing to rise in already submerged towns and villages, according to government disaster‑management authorities.

Over the past three days, some areas have recorded more than 1,500 mm of rain, exacerbating the severe flooding.

The downpours have triggered landslides and widespread inundation, with 43,000 homes now flooded and over 10,000 hectares of crops submerged.

In addition to the fatalities, five people remain missing, according to the latest reports.

The floods have also disrupted power supply, leaving more than 553,000 households without electricity.

The hardest-hit regions include key coffee-producing zones and coastal communities. Rescue operations are underway, but officials are warning of further risk as rainfall continues.

Meanwhile, the disaster has caused major economic losses, not just from flooded homes and crops, but also damage to infrastructure and significant disruption to daily life.

Authorities are calling for continued vigilance and cooperation from the public as they coordinate rescue and recovery efforts.
