Genevieve Nnaji Condemns Online Call for Igbo Men to Shun Igbo Women
Nollywood veteran Genevieve Nnaji has strongly pushed back at a viral social media message advising Igbo men to avoid marrying Igbo women. The actress, who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, described the suggestion as irresponsible and rooted in a lack of self-reflection.
The controversy began when an X (formerly Twitter) user wrote:
“Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of r4ping your daughter, better look outside for wife… Go to East Africa, especially this Rwanda and pick a damsel.”
In response, Nnaji reprimanded the advice, saying:
“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”
When some defended the original post, claiming it targeted only “false rape accusers” and not all Igbo women, Nnaji doubled down:
“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. ‘Not all women.’”
Her remarks have ignited a wider debate online, touching on ethnic stereotyping, accountability, and cultural pride.
