“Genocide against Christians”, Cleric Claims Tinubu‑Shettima Government Pushes Islamic Agenda
A prominent cleric, Ezekiel Dachomo, Regional Leader of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), has accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his deputy Kashim Shettima of pursuing an “Islamic agenda” aimed at dominating Nigeria and marginalising Christians.
Speaking in an interview on “The Morning Brief” on national television, Dachomo asserted that having both the President and Vice‑President as Muslims amounts to “complete genocide” against the Christian community in Nigeria’s political hierarchy.
He warned that the government, he argued, was trying to “control the whole country,” urging Christians across Nigeria “to wake up from their slumber and face the Bible,” warning that the administration seeks to convert Christians by force.
Dachomo also pointed to what he sees as increasing violence, alleged threats and systemic neglect of Christian‑dominated communities, framing them as part of a broader effort to suppress and displace Christians socially and politically.
Calls for reaction have been mixed. While some critics and religious‑rights activists echo concerns about growing sectarian bias under the “Muslim‑Muslim” ticket of Tinubu and Shettima, supporters of the administration insist that the pairing was not motivated by religion but by regional balance and competence.
As the debate intensifies, many Nigerians are watching closely, worried that the discourse risks fueling religious tensions in an already polarized society.
