Heavy Rain Prompts Yellow Weather Warning Across EssexHeavy Rain Prompts Yellow Weather Warning Across Essex

Essex residents have been urged to prepare for severe weather after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain, in effect from Thursday night until midday Friday. The warning comes as heavy showers, expected to bring up to 70mm of rainfall in some areas, sweep across the county.

The Met Office has advised residents to be vigilant, as the rain may cause flooding, disrupt transport, and affect infrastructure. Bus and train services are likely to face delays, while some homes and businesses could experience flooding. Residents are encouraged to check road conditions, public transport timetables, and consider preparing a flood plan along with an emergency kit.

In response to the forecast, several local events have been cancelled, including the Community Day at Canvey Library, which was set to host over 30 stalls and entertainment activities. Organisers said the event will be rescheduled in September.

The warning follows heavy rain reported earlier in southern Wales and England, now moving eastward into Essex. Meteorologists caution that the heaviest rainfall could include 10-20mm in an hour and 50-70mm where showers persist, particularly near the coast. Thunderstorms may also occur in these wetter areas.

The Met Office advised residents to monitor updates, as weather conditions can change rapidly. Preparations such as gathering torches, power banks, and other essential items are recommended to mitigate the impact of potential power cuts or flooding.

Colder, wetter weather is expected to dominate much of the UK throughout September, marking the end of the summer with widespread showers and potential disruption.
