I’m Not Fascinated by the Grammy Awards, But I Want It for Davido — Omah LayI’m Not Fascinated by the Grammy Awards, But I Want It for Davido, Omah Lay

Rising Afrobeats star Omah Lay has opened up candidly about his debut nomination at the Grammy Awards, admitting that while he does not place much personal value on the accolade itself, he’s deeply invested in seeing fellow Nigerian superstar Davido walk away with a win.

Debut nomination comes with mixed emotions

Omah Lay acknowledged his first nomination, achieved through his collaboration with Davido on the track “With You”,  which is set to compete in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th annual Grammys.

In a post shared on his Instagram fan platform, he wrote:

“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards. Yeah but I really want it for OBO! He is the realest friend I’ve had in a while; he stood by me during my hardest times.”

Here, “OBO” refers to Davido, highlighting the personal bond and respect between the two artists.

Why Davido matters

Davido is no stranger to the Grammy limelight, he has garnered multiple nominations but is yet to secure a win. The push by Omah Lay underlines not just the personal loyalty, but also a shared ambition for Nigerian artists to break through on the global awards stage.

By throwing his support behind Davido, Omah Lay signals that while awards may not define him, collective recognition for his peers and the wider Afrobeats movement matters.

Looking beyond the trophy

The singer’s comments reflect a nuanced stance: he celebrates the professional milestone of a Grammy nomination, yet remains grounded about what truly drives his art. His focus rests more on solidarity, artistic growth and the advancement of Nigerian music globally, rather than the hardware itself.
