Iyabo Ojo’s Refusal to Testify Is Holding Up Cybercrime Cases, Police Say
The Nigeria Police’s National Cybercrime Centre (NPF‑NCCC) has revealed that actress Iyabo Ojo is delaying two ongoing cybercrime prosecutions by refusing to testify in court or submit a formal statement. The cases involve high-profile figures including Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Tonto Dikeh, and social media figure VeryDarkMan.
Behind the Two Key Cases
Case One: Allegations Against Iyabo Ojo
Complainants: Naira Marley (Azeez Fashola) and Sam Larry
Allegation: Ojo allegedly made unverified claims on social media and in interviews, implicating them in the death of late artist Mohbad.
The matter was probed under the Cybercrimes Act (2024 amendment), and Ojo was invited for questioning and granted administrative bail before being formally charged in court.
Case Two: Complaint Against VeryDarkMan
Complainants: Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh
Accusation: Social media personality VeryDarkMan (real name Martins Vincent Otse) is accused of cyberstalking and cyberbullying. This matter is filed under Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/149/2024.
However, despite repeated court summonses, Ojo has not appeared as a key prosecution witness nor provided her written statement.
Ojo Raises Concerns Over Investigation Conduct
In response to the mounting delays, Iyabo Ojo has filed a petition with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, citing professional misconduct by the NPF-NCC during her interrogation.
She alleges that VeryDarkMan, a defendant in one of the cases, was improperly allowed into her interrogation room. According to documents submitted via her lawyers, this breach of protocol allegedly resulted in confidential details leaking online.
Ojo is calling for the case to be relocated to Lagos, where she believes the investigation can proceed more fairly and free from police partiality.
