Jennifer Aniston Reveals She and Gwyneth Paltrow Still Chat About Brad Pitt
Hollywood icon Jennifer Aniston has opened up about her enduring friendship with fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and yes, the two women do occasionally talk about their famous mutual ex, Brad Pitt.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Aniston didn’t shy away when asked whether Pitt ever comes up in conversation between them. “Oh, of course. How can we not? We’re girls,” she replied with a laugh. But she made it clear that gossip isn’t their main topic of discussion. Instead, their exchanges are more about wellness and self-care than rehashing old flames.
“We’re always swapping advice,” Aniston explained. “‘What are you doing for this?’ ‘Do you have a new doctor for that?’ ‘What’s the latest thing you’ve tried?’”
Paltrow and Pitt were famously engaged in the mid-1990s, before splitting in 1997. A few years later, Pitt married Aniston in 2000, but the marriage ended in 2005. Looking back, Aniston described that post-divorce period as “such a vulnerable time.” Ironically, she revealed, she had even attended Paltrow and Pitt’s engagement party years earlier, before she and the actor became a couple.
The pair’s friendship goes back decades, having first met in 1996 when Paltrow was working with Aniston’s Friends co-star David Schwimmer on the film The Pallbearer.
Remembering Matthew Perry
Aniston also reflected on the heartbreaking loss of her Friends co-star Matthew Perry, who passed away in 2023. His long battle with addiction had been widely known, and an autopsy later revealed a high concentration of ketamine in his system.
“We did everything we could when we could,” she said, speaking of the cast’s efforts to support Perry through his struggles. “But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time. His battle was so hard for him to fight, and as much as it hurt all of us, and the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”
Perry played Chandler Bing alongside Aniston’s Rachel Green in the iconic sitcom, which ran from 1994 to 2004 and remains a global favorite.
Life Beyond the Rumors
Aniston also addressed the endless tabloid speculation about her personal life. At one point, a rumor even linked her romantically to former U.S. President Barack Obama, a claim she publicly debunked last year on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She clarified that while she doesn’t know Barack well, she has developed a warm rapport with former First Lady Michelle Obama.
“I was lucky enough to have dinner with Michelle a month ago,” she said, adding that the bizarre dating rumor never even came up during their evening together. “Honestly, I don’t think anyone pays attention to those stories if you’re the one they’re about.”
A Career That Endures
While Aniston will always be beloved for her role as Rachel Green, she has built an impressive career beyond Friends, starring in hit films alongside actors like Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn, and Owen Wilson. She currently headlines Apple TV+’s The Morning Show with Reese Witherspoon, a behind-the-scenes drama about a network news program.
Even with her decades in the spotlight, Aniston remains refreshingly candid, whether it’s about her friendships, her grief, or the absurdity of celebrity rumors. And while she and Paltrow might occasionally revisit the Brad Pitt chapter, it’s clear that their bond is built on far more than shared history.
