Veteran Nigerian Juju and Afro-Juju musician Sir Shina Peters (full name Oluwashina Akanbi Peters), has disclosed that he fathered his first child at just 14 years old, while also sharing other remarkable milestones from his early life.

Speaking on the podcast The Honest Bunch, Sir Shina recounted how his career began very early — he said he started performing professionally by age 10, bought his first car at 13, had his first child at 14, and built his first house by the age of 16.

Now aged 67, he also voiced his belief that the contemporary music industry no longer provides the right environment for his type of artistry. He explained that although a large portion of his fan base still request new music from him, he finds the atmosphere discouraging. “I don’t just go to the studio. I can’t go to the studio, the atmosphere is not conducive for me. I don’t know what to sing,” he said.

An interesting insight from the conversation was his revelation regarding the demographics of his fan base: he claimed that roughly 65 % of his supporters are Igbo, rather than Yoruba, underscoring how his music transcended regional divisions.

In summarising his reflections, Sir Shina highlighted both the dizzying speed of his ascent and the changing terrain of the music business. While his early achievements speak to prodigious talent and drive, his current stance signals a seasoned artist choosing to preserve his legacy on his own terms.
