Manchester United’s apparent interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s young midfield star, Carlos Baleba, seems to be fading, largely due to the hefty price tag the Seagulls are demanding.

According to Sam Wallace from The Telegraph, the Red Devils are stepping back from pursuing Baleba this summer. Their reasoning? Brighton is asking for around £115 million, a sum that United aren’t in a financial position to meet under current circumstances. This figure mirrors what Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.

Brighton’s stance remains firm: they’re not looking to sell. Still, if United were to come calling with a Caicedo-level offer, the Seagulls might reconsider, but only then.

Sources close to Fabrizio Romano back this cautious approach, United aren’t pulling out completely. They’re continuing talks with Baleba’s agents and are actively exploring whether the move could become viable. But Brighton hasn’t shown any inclination to lower their valuation.

Adding to the complexity, reports from Sports Mole suggest Brighton values Baleba at roughly €120 million (about £104 million). Furthermore, they’ve denied direct contact with United, describing all speculation as just that, speculation.
