Meghan Opens Up on Who Said “I Love You” First and What She Misses About the UK in With Love, Meghan Season 2
California sunsets, beautifully decorated cakes, and even lessons on making salt and vinegar crisps, Meghan Markle’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan has returned for its second season on Netflix.
Filmed in a house near her Montecito home, the Duchess of Sussex once again welcomes celebrity friends like Chrissy Teigen and John Legend for food, fun, and conversation. While Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet, don’t appear on camera, viewers get a rare glimpse into Meghan’s everyday family life.
In one episode, she reveals she makes hot breakfast for her family most mornings. “It’s not as complicated as people think,” Meghan says. Her go-to meals include fried eggs, pancakes, and her children’s favorite, “surprise pancakes” sprinkled with flax and chia seeds. “The ritual of breakfast is a sacred time as a family,” she adds.
Harry Said It First
Season two, like the first, mixes recipes and lifestyle tips with personal anecdotes. Meghan recalls that during her early acting career she would get so nervous at auditions she’d break out in blotches and hide under turtlenecks, rewarding herself with a McDonald’s apple pie if things went well.
Talking about her relationship, Meghan shares that she knew she loved Harry by their third date while camping in Botswana. But it was Harry who said “I love you” first. She also reveals that while the couple enjoys roast chicken often, Harry isn’t as adventurous with food, he doesn’t like lobster, something chef José Andrés teased her about on the show.
Notably, there’s no mention of the Royal Family, nor of the well-documented rift. Earlier this year, Harry expressed his hope for reconciliation in a BBC interview, but none of that is touched on here. The Sussexes also keep their children off-screen, maintaining their privacy.
Still, Meghan does share one thing she misses about the UK: listening to Magic Radio. When Queer Eye’s Tan France teased her about it being a “grandma station,” Meghan laughed and replied, “I’ll be that grandma.”
Her Identity as ‘Sussex’
Season one featured a much-discussed moment when Meghan corrected Mindy Kaling for calling her “Markle,” clarifying that her name is now Sussex. Although that doesn’t come up this time, in a separate interview with Bloomberg, Meghan reflected:
“No matter what my name is, I’m still the same person. That didn’t change who I am. And maybe that’s the biggest distinction.” She added that Sussex remains “our family name, the one we share with our children.”
Building a Lifestyle Brand
The Netflix series is widely seen as part of Meghan’s bigger lifestyle relaunch. Alongside With Love, Meghan, she has launched her brand As Ever, selling products such as wildflower honey and edible flower petals, followed by her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder.
Earlier this month, the Sussexes also signed a new multi-year deal with Netflix for future TV and film projects, countering speculation that their partnership with the platform was ending.
Reception to the series remains mixed. While it debuted as one of Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows globally, critics have been divided. The Telegraph gave it two stars, calling it “marginally less mad than the first,” while Hello! magazine praised Meghan’s warmth, saying it “leaves you wanting more.”
Royal expert Victoria Murphy noted the importance of the show to Meghan’s public image: “It’s very important in terms of how she wants to be seen and the presence she wants moving forward.”
As with much of Meghan’s work, reactions will likely remain split. If you’re not a fan, the series probably won’t change your mind. But for those who admire her, season two is filled with charm, positivity, and plenty of personal touches.
