“Naira Marley Bullied My Son,” Mohbad’s Father Says“Naira Marley Bullied My Son,” Mohbad’s Father Says

In a heartfelt and unsettling revelation, Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has once again challenged claims made by his son’s former label boss, Naira Marley. In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, Aloba maintained unequivocally that his son was bullied, despite Marley’s earlier denial of involvement in Mohbad’s struggles.

Marley had previously stated in a public interview that his only role was that of a mentor, stepping in only after noticing the young artist’s alleged experimentation with drugs.

But Aloba, drawing from his own firsthand experiences, told a very different story.

He recounted visiting Naira Marley to air his son’s concerns, hoping for a resolution. What he encountered, however, deeply troubled him. An associate of Marley reportedly confided in Aloba that he had witnessed Naira Marley physically assaulting Mohbad.

Aloba was clear and unwavering:
“When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully.”
He added that contrary to speculation, his visit was not financially motivated:
“People assume I went there to collect money, but life is beyond just what I want to eat.”

Addressing claims that Mohbad received payments from unauthorized bank accounts, Aloba confirmed there was substance to the allegations. Marley had raised concerns that Mohbad was using an account not in his name, and Aloba acknowledged that he, too, noticed the issue, money being sent from unfamiliar sources. In response, he instructed that any future payments must come from Marley’s official account.

A Father’s Perspective: Aloba’s words echo the pain of a father who believes his child faced emotional and physical distress under someone he trusted as a mentor.

Contradictory Narratives: Naira Marley has maintained a public image of care and concern; Aloba’s account paints a radically different picture.

Context of a Larger Tragedy: Mohbad’s death in 2023 sparked nationwide conversations about the well-being of young artists. Earlier, he had publicly accused Marley of physical assault, accusations Marley dismissed as statements made while Mohbad was “high.”
