Nathaniel Bassey Brings His “Hallelujah Challenge” to Kirikiri Prison
On the occasion of his 44th birthday, renowned Nigerian gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey, famed for his signature online worship movement, the “Hallelujah Challenge”, took the spirit of praise behind bars, leading a special worship session at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos.
The event, titled the “Kirikiri Edition”, marked a creative and heartfelt extension of his usual one-hour midnight worship rallies. Held on August 27, 2025, Bassey guided inmates and even prison staff in a time of praise and spiritual encouragement.
The “Hallelujah Challenge” began in mid-June 2017, when Bassey invited followers to join in an hour of praise from 12 a.m. to 1 a.m., streamed live via Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. The initiative quickly gained traction, gathering massive participation and setting the stage for yearly campaigns, like the 2025 edition, which ran from February 10 to March 1.
By adapting this worship tradition to the prison setting, Bassey created a moment of hope and restoration. His visit underscores the power of music and faith to uplift even in the most challenging environments, celebrating captivity transformed through worship and unity.
