Around 6:30 p.m. ET, a man armed with an AR‑style rifle entered the lobby and opened fire, hitting an off-duty NYPD officer working private security and several civilians.

The shooter then moved to the 33rd floor, where another person was killed before he turned the weapon on himself.
Casualties and Suspect Details
Total fatalities included four people, among them off-duty Officer Didarul Islam (36), originally from Bangladesh, who is survived by two young sons and a wife pregnant with their third child. A fifth person was critically injured.
The gunman was identified as 27‑year‑old Shane Devon Tamura, a Las Vegas resident. He reportedly traveled cross‑country before carrying out the attack. He was found dead on the 33rd floor, having apparently died by a self-inflicted gunshot.
Authorities reported finding a concealed‑carry permit, additional firearms, ammunition, and medication in Tamura’s vehicle. A history of mental health issues was also noted.
Official Response and Investigation
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the shooter appeared to act alone and that the scene has been secured.
Mayor Eric Adams urged the public to steer clear of the affected area between East 52nd Street and Lexington Avenue, extended condolences to the victims’ families, and praised Officer Islam’s bravery.
