Nigerian Singer Portable Accuses His Father of Exploitation, Warns Him Not to Be Like Mohbad’s Dad
Nigerian street‑pop star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has launched a scathing public attack on his father, accusing him of years of neglect, manipulation, and financial exploitation as their family dispute plays out publicly online.
In a lengthy Instagram Live video shared this week, the controversial entertainer detailed a turbulent relationship with his father, alleging that he failed to support him during his formative years and has recently re‑entered his life only to seek financial benefit. Portable claimed his father did not provide for his education or vocational training, forcing him to fend for himself and learn skills like tailoring before making it in the music industry.
Portable said his father is only interested in accessing his money and assets, even contacting the mothers of his children for financial gain rather than offering genuine support during crises. He also accused his father of mismanaging funds during a house construction project by inflating the cost of materials.
The singer went on to reject any notion that his father should inherit his wealth, insisting he will protect his properties and refuse attempts to claim them. He further warned his father not to act “like Baba Mohbad,” referencing the late singer Mohbad’s father in an apparent critique of how Mohbad’s family matters were handled.
Portable openly said his life “was better” before his father became involved, adding that he intends to live long enough to provide for his children and secure his legacy. He contrasted his father’s behaviour with that of his late mother and supportive aunt, who he said played a more positive role in his upbringing.
As of now, Portable’s father has not publicly responded to the allegations, leaving the feud unfolding on social media without comment from the elder Okikiola.
