Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of prioritizing political scheming over national security.

In a post on X, Obi referenced a comment by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently described Nigeria as “now disgraced.” He argued that the country’s escalating security failures, including the kidnapping of 25 students in Kebbi State and the killing of a high-ranking general, validate Trump’s harsh assessment.

Obi accused the Tinubu government of deliberately fomenting internal conflict within opposition parties (such as the PDP, Labour Party, and SDP) to weaken them, instead of uniting Nigerians around tackling the security crisis.

He contrasted this with a previous approach under former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, when he said all parties were treated with respect to strengthen democracy. “The stability of every political party … was essential for democracy,” Obi recalled.

Obi concluded by calling for a more inclusive governance model: “In democratic nations, opposition is respected, elections reflect the will of the people, and governance involves carrying everyone along for peace and prosperity.”

In a separate message, he urged Tinubu’s administration to shift its priorities, to focus on addressing the country’s security challenges rather than engaging in political infighting.
