Osun APC Alerts Security Agencies Ahead of NULGE Work Resumption
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally alerted security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), over concerns that the upcoming work resumption by members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) could spark unrest across the state’s local government areas.
In a statement on Tuesday, the APC accused the NULGE leadership, led by Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, of crossing into partisan politics and aligning with Governor Ademola Adeleke by placing conditions on workers’ return to council secretariats. Although the party welcomed the end of the union’s nearly 11‑month strike, it described the conditions attached to the resumption, particularly those concerning which local government executives workers should recognise, as illegal and beyond the union’s remit.
APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi questioned NULGE’s authority to interpret or choose court decisions, saying employees have no business deciding which authorities they must work with. The party insisted that the union’s actions could lead to chaos and disruption of peace across Osun’s local government council areas unless security is strengthened.
The party urged security forces to prevent any disturbance or breach of public peace related to the resumption and to protect workers who genuinely wish to return to duty without being tied to what it called “obnoxious and illegal conditionalities.”
The alert comes as NULGE has announced January 5, 2026, as the date for council employees to resume work after the prolonged strike that began in February 2025, linked to political tensions over control of local government administration in the state.
The dispute highlights ongoing friction between political actors and organised labour in Osun, as both sides prepare for the return of civil servants to local government operations.
