Osun Governor Adeleke Vows to Continue Dancing, Says It Doesn’t Interfere With His Duties

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to his well-known habit of dancing, insisting that it does not in any way impact his performance in office.

Adeleke, popularly referred to as the “dancing governor” due to his energetic moves at public events, stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme. He acknowledged that his public displays of dance have drawn criticism from some opponents who question his seriousness as a governor, but he dismissed those concerns.

“I will keep dancing because I love to dance and I love to praise my God,” Adeleke said, explaining that dancing is his personal way of relaxing and expressing gratitude. He added that everyone has their own way of unwinding, and for him, music and dance are part of that. “That doesn’t affect my work in any way,” he emphasized.

The governor’s remarks come amid a renewed public debate following a viral video showing him breaking into dance during a recent official event. While some Nigerians perceived the moment as inappropriate, Adeleke maintained that personal expression should not be conflated with his capacity to govern effectively.

Adeleke recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Accord Party as he prepares to seek re-election in the August 2026 Osun governorship contest. Party officials have since confirmed him as the Accord Party’s candidate.

Despite mixed reactions to his dancing, the governor reiterated that his work and delivery of public services remain his priority, and that he will continue to balance personal expression with the responsibilities of his office.
