Portable Declares Himself Fifth on Nigeria’s Music Ladder After Top Four
Lagos, Nigeria – Fast-rising singer Habeeb Okikiolu Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has boldly declared himself the fifth most important artist in Nigeria’s contemporary music scene—trailing behind only Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Olamide.
In a widely shared Instagram video posted after his dispute with Bella Shmurda, Portable boldly proclaimed, ‘Following Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Olamide, I’m next in line. I swear by God, I have the talent to sing.
He challenged his critics to musical duels, adding that apart from Barry Jay—whom he acknowledged as equally gifted—few could match his vocal prowess.
Portable also implied his career predates mainstream recognition: I discovered myself before they discovered me, he stated, asserting that his songs are motivational, capable of inspiring listeners towards success.
Clash with Bella Shmurda
The boastful proclamation came after a clash with fellow artist Bella Shmurda. During an appearance on the “Curiosity Made Me Ask” podcast, Bella explained why he opted not to collaborate with Portable, citing a mismatch in music style and a preference I simply don’t feel there’s any musical synergy, and I prefer to steer clear of unnecessary drama.
Reacting sharply on Instagram, Portable dismissed Bella as a “failed musician,” claiming his own international credentials—performances in both the U.S. and London—surpassed those of his detractor. “It’s not about who blew first, it’s about who’s still blowing,” he stressed
Bottom line: Portable is staking his claim as Nigeria’s next top artist and isn’t afraid to spotlight his global reach or public feuds to back up his assertion.
