President Tinubu writes Senate to seek Approval to Invade Niger Republic

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the Nigerian Senate’s support for his plan to intervene in the Niger Republic following the recent coup. The letter was read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on August 4, 2023.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) led by President Tinubu condemned the coup and proposed measures to restore the democratically elected government.

However, the junta has remained uncooperative despite efforts, and military intervention may be considered if necessary.

Some view this response as a proactive stand against democratic violations in the region, while others question its pragmatism.
