Suspects in DJ Sumbody Murder Also Linked to Other High-Profile Killings
The four men charged with the murder of music producer Oupa ‘DJ Sumbody‘ Sefoka are now also being linked to two other high-profile killings, officials revealed on Tuesday. The court appearance took place at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where police confirmed the links.
Ballistic Evidence Ties Multiple Murders Together
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe revealed a major breakthrough: forensic testing has connected a single AK‑47 rifle to the murders of:
DJ Vintos (Hector Buthelezi), shot dead outside a nightclub in March 2022
“DJ Sumbody, along with his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza, was ambushed and killed in Woodmead in November 2022.”
“In March 2023, Don Tindleni was fatally shot while driving along the N1 freeway in Johannesburg.”
Three pistols recovered during the arrest were also linked to the April 2024 killing of Armand Swart, a Transnet engineer allegedly targeted in a mistaken identity hit.
Court Proceedings and Charges
The suspects, Katiso “KT” Molefe, Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana, and Tiego Mabusela—face multiple counts of murder and conspiracy, including in the Swart, Vintos, and Tindleni cases. Their bail application was postponed until 6 August, with the broader investigation expected to continue until 18 September.
Wider Investigation Points to Syndicate Activity
Police investigators indicate that this case may involve a broader organized crime network. At least 10 high-profile murders have so far been linked to the same AK‑47 and the related firearms, with more cases expected as investigations deepen.
What It Means
Forensic evidence connecting the same AK‑47 to several murders suggests deliberate, overlapping criminal actions rather than isolated incidents.
Authorities consider this a significant breakthrough in solving multiple cold-case assassinations involving public figures.
While the investigation continues, the unfolding case is raising urgent questions about links between organized crime and high-profile targeted killings in South Africa.
