Six displaced people were killed Monday night in the Amadu community, located in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, according to sources who spoke with SaharaReporters.

The victims, all internally displaced persons, had taken refuge in Amadu when gunmen, locally described as “terrorists” or bandits, attacked.

The deceased have been identified as Terfa Terhemen, Tyoyinga Ngunan, Sondongu Hangem, Aondoso Tsea, Aondona Mteroga, and Onov Nyoko.

Their ages range from about 27 to 35, with one elder said to be around 65.

A Christian leader in the area, speaking anonymously for security reasons, blamed Fulani militias for the killings. “These killings happen every day … right now, the residents are protesting,” he told reporters.

Tensions in the region have been high in recent weeks. Earlier in November, the Taraba State Police started investigating claims that armed herders had invaded the Chanchanji community, also in Takum LGA.

Local residents say they have observed herders moving into several nearby areas from neighbouring Donga LGA, raising fears of coordinated attacks.

Community and church leaders are calling for urgent government intervention. The parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Parish in Takum, Reverend Father George Dogo, previously warned of a worsening security breach and urged authorities to act quickly to protect vulnerable populations.
