Who is Toke Makinwa?

Toke Makinwa is one of Nigeria’s most recognizable media figures, known for her versatility as a television host, actress, brand influencer, vlogger, entrepreneur, author, and radio presenter.

She first gained national attention in 2014 as the host of a popular morning show on Rhythm FM and quickly rose to become one of the most influential female voices in African media, particularly in entertainment and fashion.

Toke’s life story is one of resilience. Born in November 1984 in Lagos, she lost both parents in a tragic house fire at a young age and was raised by guardians alongside her siblings. “She obtained her first degree from the University of Lagos.”

In 2014, she married fitness coach and entrepreneur Maje Ayida, but the marriage ended in a widely publicized divorce in 2016 following allegations of infidelity. Her best-selling memoir, On Becoming, detailed her personal journey through heartbreak, healing, and transformation, a story she once discussed in-depth with BBC Focus Africa in 2017.

Today, Toke Makinwa stands as a symbol of reinvention and perseverance, and now, she is stepping into what she calls the most important role of her life, motherhood.
