Toke Makinwa Says Daughter Has Helped Heal Her From Childhood Trauma and Grief

Media personality Toke Makinwa has shared that becoming a mother has played a pivotal role in her emotional healing, helping her address wounds from her past she believed long resolved.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Makinwa revealed that her daughter, Yakira Eliana, born in August 2025, has been a source of daily restoration. She wrote, “My daughter brought me healing … healing parts of me I didn’t even know needed healing, healing from my childhood trauma, from grief I thought I had dealt with a long time ago.”

The 40-year-old has previously opened up about traumatic experiences from her childhood, notably the death of her parents in a gas explosion when she was eight years old.

She also endured a very public divorce from fitness coach Maje Ayida in 2017 after three years of marriage.

Makinwa said that motherhood has shifted her perspective and become a pathway for mending those old wounds.
