Trump to Meet New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani on Friday
President Donald Trump has announced he will meet New York City Mayor‑elect Zohran “Kwame” Mamdani at the White House this Friday, marking their first face‑to‑face meeting since Mamdani’s election.
The meeting is set to take place in the Oval Office, according to Trump’s post on his social media platform.
Mamdani’s transition team confirmed the sit-down, saying it will focus on public safety, economic security, and the “affordability agenda” at the heart of his campaign, issues that resonated with over a million New Yorkers.
The announcement comes after a tense period: Trump had repeatedly criticized Mamdani during the campaign, once calling him a “communist” and threatening to cut federal funding to the city if he won.
Despite their political differences, Mamdani is a democratic socialist and Trump a Republican, the mayor-elect reached out to the White House shortly after his election.
Mamdani, who is set to be sworn in on January 1, said he is open to working with anyone who can deliver results for New Yorkers, even his political opponents.
