Nollywood legend Chiwetalu Agu has closely responded to recent online claims of his passing, dismissing them as false and misleading. In a video posted on his Instagram account, the actor reassured fans and family that he is alive, in good health, and deeply troubled by how swiftly unverified news spread about him.
The controversy began when a blogger shared a post on Facebook alleging that Agu had succumbed to complications from diabetes following spinal surgery. The post included an “RIP” caption and Agu’s photograph, and it quickly gained traction, being shared widely and provoking concern among followers.

In his Instagram message, Agu urged people to ignore the baseless rumours and to report any pages or posts propagating them. He said:

“Fans and family, please disregard any rumors about my death … I am very much alive by God’s grace.”

He also struck a defiant tone toward those spreading the story, stating he is “yet to carry his grandchildren” and emphasizing that he will not succumb to death soon. In rather vivid language, he declared that he would instead “bury his enemies”.

Although angrily dismissing the false report, Agu also said he considered legal action, particularly if the misinformation had come from a more prominent blogger. However, in this case, he decided against legal proceedings, noting the originator of the claim was among less influential bloggers.

Agu’s reaction underscores ongoing challenges around misinformation in the digital age, particularly regarding the spread of fake death reports and other harmful rumours that can cause distress to public figures and their loved ones.
