Veteran Kannywood Actor Malam Nata’ala Passes Away, Industry in Mourning
The Hausa‑language film community is mourning the loss of veteran actor Malam Nata’ala, who has died after a period of serious illness.
Nata’ala, whose full name is Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, had been battling cancer for nearly two years, and last August publicly appealed for financial assistance to continue treatment.
The actor had earned prominence in the Kannywood film industry thanks to his role in the popular television series Dadin Kowa, which airs on Arewa 24.
A native of Yobe State, Nata’ala began his career in 1986 and was known not only for acting but also for producing and writing numerous scripts. He is survived by his three wives and ten children.
Colleagues, friends and industry stakeholders have expressed sadness at his passing, noting that his dedication and contributions helped shape the Hausa entertainment scene for decades. His death is being described as a significant loss to Kannywood.
Arrangements for the funeral and burial are still being finalised with details expected to be announced by his family and local guilds later.
