Wike‑Aligned PDP Faction Calls Emergency BoT & NEC Meetings Amid Internal Crisis

A faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has issued a notice for emergency meetings of both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT). The meetings are set against the backdrop of an escalating internal power struggle within the party.

The BoT meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the NEC session at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the PDP national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The summons was issued by Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary of the Wike-backed faction.

This development comes shortly after the party’s national convention in Ibadan, where several key figures aligned with Wike, including himself, were expelled by the party’s other faction. The expelled members reportedly include Samuel Anyanwu, Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, among others.

The Wike-aligned group has signaled that the emergency meetings are aimed at addressing “crucial matters,” suggesting that they will contest the suspensions and other recent decisions made at the convention. The summoning of both NEC and BoT reflects the depth of the PDP’s current internal schism.

Observers say the outcome of these meetings could significantly shape the direction of the party going into the 2027 general elections, potentially consolidating Wike’s influence or forcing a reconciliation with his critics.
