Wike Says Rivers Will Not Repeat Leadership Mistake Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that Rivers State will correct the leadership errors made in the past as the 2027 general elections approach. The former governor spoke on Tuesday during a thank-you visit to Khana Local Government Area in Bori, where he expressed gratitude to residents for their loyalty and political support.
Wike said leaders should serve the collective will of the people and not pursue personal ambitions, stressing that the state will not make the “same mistake again” in 2027. “We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027… Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going,” he said, without specifying the nature of the past error.
According to the FCT minister, his visit was not for political campaigning but to thank the people of Khana for standing with him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 elections, a time he described as difficult and uncertain. Wike noted that the community took a political risk by supporting Tinubu when others hesitated, and said that support has since brought tangible development to Ogoniland, including roads, the University of Environment, and federal appointments.
Wike further hinted at a shift in political behaviour in Rivers State, saying voters will no longer choose strictly along party lines but will prioritise unity, trust, and development under what he termed the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Earlier in the visit, Representative Dumnamene Dekor (APC–Khana) praised Wike and Tinubu for bringing development to the area and assured the minister of the people’s loyalty. Dekor said residents are ready to act on Wike’s guidance and follow his lead as the political landscape evolves ahead of the next elections.
