Zoe Kravitz Almost Lost Her Mom’s Pet Snake While Staying at Taylor Swift’s House
While seeking refuge from the California wildfires earlier this year, actress Zoë Kravitz and her mother, Lisa Bonet, stayed at Taylor Swift’s Los Angeles home, and what began as a safe shelter turned into a wild rescue mission.
Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on August 12, Zoë shared how they spent about two weeks in Taylor’s elegant, 1930s-style house during the evacuation.
Everything was going smoothly, until their final day, when Zoë was tidying up to ensure they left no trace.
Suddenly, her mother called from upstairs, her voice panicked and unusually high. Zoë rushed to find Lisa crouched in a bathroom corner, clutching the tail of Orpheus, her pet snake, who had slipped into a little-known hole near a banquette built into the wall.
They tried everything to retrieve Orpheus, removing drawers, coaxing, but the snake slithered further into the wall. There was a terrifying moment when Zoë realized the only options were either tell Taylor or wreck the bathroom to get the snake out.
Ultimately, they called the house manager, who arrived with a crowbar. Between them, they ripped out tiles, scratched surfaces, and dismantled the beautiful banquette, completely dismantling the bathroom in the process.
Zoë immediately volunteered to pay for all the repairs, insisting Swift not be told until everything was fixed.
Despite her efforts to keep it under wraps, Taylor already knew. During their phone call, Taylor quipped, “Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?”
Seth Meyers playfully suggested that Orpheus might inspire songs on her next album, and Zoë half-jokingly replied that it would be called Orpheus.
