Hilda Baci, a young Nigerian chef from Akwa Ibom State, is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for marathon cooking. Here are 20 things to know about Hilda and her cooking challenge:

  1. Hilda’s real name is Hilda Bassey Effiong, and she owns a food brand in Lagos called “My Food by Hilda.”
  2. She will be cooking non-stop for 4 days, aiming to break the existing record.
  3. Hilda must stand while cooking; sitting is not permitted.
  4. She is not allowed to consume coffee, stimulants, or energy drinks to artificially boost her energy.
  5. However, she can eat food, drink water or fruit juice, and take glucose.
  6. The cooking is taking place at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria.
  7. Hilda cooks round the clock without sleep, including morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
  8. She is entitled to a 5-minute rest per hour, meaning she can take a break for 5 minutes for every hour of cooking. Other sources claim she gets a 30-minute break every 6 hours, during which she can rest, use the restroom, and receive a medical assessment.
  9. All the food Hilda cooks is shared with people at the venue for free; she is not selling the food.
  10. She has the freedom to cook any meal she likes simultaneously; there are no restrictions on what she can cook.
  11. Every meal cooked and served is recorded. By the time you are reading this, Hilda has cooked over 115 meals, serving almost 3,000 portions.
  12. Hilda started the cooking challenge on Thursday and aims to complete it by Monday, May 15th, 2023, in the evening.
  13. The current record holder Hilda seeks to break is an Indian chef named Lata Tandon, who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes non-stop in 2019.
  14. Hilda is attempting to cook for 96 hours, using an extra 9 hours to break the world record and become the first person to spend such an amount of time cooking in a marathon.
  15. She has named the cooking project “Cook-a-thon,” derived from the word “marathon.”
  16. Although she appears exhausted, Hilda is cheered on by the people around her, who support her throughout the 24/7 cooking process.
  17. Many of the food items, ingredients, and utensils used in this project are provided by her sponsors, reducing the financial burden on Hilda and her food brand.
  18. Uber, one of Hilda’s partners, offers a 40% discounted ride to the venue for people who want to join and cheer her on.
  19. Hilda’s mother is also a chef and owns a food brand called “Calabar Pot.”
  20. Hilda is currently 27 years old.
