The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, has recently made significant appointments, adding valuable expertise to his administration. Notably, former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, and renowned rapper Jude Abaga, also known as MI, have been honored with advisory roles.
John Mikel Obi has been appointed as Honorary Adviser on Sports, while MI assumes the role of Honorary Adviser on Entertainment and Creativity. The governor’s spokesperson, Gyang Bere, conveyed that these appointments are part of the administration’s vision to establish a solid foundation of excellence for Plateau state.
Mikel Obi, who hails from Jos, the capital of Plateau state, achieved remarkable success in football during his prime, earning numerous accolades with Nigeria and Chelsea. While playing for Chelsea in the English Premier League, Mikel made 249 appearances, scoring one goal and providing ten assists before departing in January 2017. With 372 appearances in all competitions, he is Nigeria’s most decorated player in England, boasting two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the Champions League, and the Europa League among his extensive collection of silverware.
In addition to these prestigious appointments, Governor Muftwang also approved the selection of other individuals to key positions within the state. Professor Christopher Yilwan was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Plateau Specialist Hospital, and Dr. Agabus Manasseh will serve as the Director General of the Plateau State Contributory Health Care Management Agency.
Further appointments include Mathew Dawap as the General Manager of the Plateau Mineral Development Company Limited and Helen Dabup as the Executive Secretary of the Local Government Service Pension Board.
Among other notable figures appointed by the governor are Ishaku Jilemsam as the Programme Manager of the Plateau Agricultural Development Programme, Samuel Gwott as the General Manager of Plateau Express Service, and Hart Bankat as the General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board.
Moreover, Olivia Dazyem has been designated as the Special Adviser on Gender and Chairperson of the Implementation Committee of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission.
Additional appointments endorsed by Governor Muftwang encompass Hon Alex Chup as the Chairman of the Teacher’s Service Commission, Hon Sunday Amuna as the Acting Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), and Prof Ishaya Pam as the Honorary Adviser on Healthcare. Furthermore, members of the Abuja Liaison Directorate have also been appointed to various roles to further strengthen the administration.
With these new appointments, Governor Muftwang aims to enhance governance and foster progress and development in Plateau State.
