Marcus Rashford Hints at Permanent Barcelona Move After Loan Spell
England international Marcus Rashford has expressed his desire to remain at FC Barcelona beyond his current loan deal from Manchester United, which is set to expire in the summer.
Barcelona hold an option to make the transfer permanent for £28 million, a figure notably lower than the £40 million fee United would demand from any other club. Rashford, 27, is under contract with Manchester United until 2028, but his future at Old Trafford appears uncertain under manager Ruben Amorim.
Speaking to ESPN, Rashford confirmed his wish to stay in Spain, saying:
“For sure. I’m enjoying this football club, and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player, it’s an honour.”
Rashford has quickly found his rhythm in La Liga, scoring five goals in 12 appearances since joining Barcelona, including a brace in their Champions League win over Olympiakos on Tuesday. The forward is also set to make his first El Clásico appearance this weekend against Real Madrid.
Reflecting on his move, Rashford admitted that leaving United after spending most of his life there was necessary for his career:
“People forget this, but 23 years of my life were with Manchester United. Sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe that’s the case with me, and I’m enjoying everything.”
The striker previously rediscovered his form during a brief loan spell at Aston Villa last season under Unai Emery, where he reignited his confidence after a difficult period at United.
Rashford has so far registered 138 goals in 426 appearances for Manchester United but appears ready to begin a new chapter in Spain, one that could soon become permanent if Barcelona decide to trigger their buy-option clause.
