Meet Tinubu’s New Aide-de-Camp: The Rise of a Military Officer Trained in the UK and China

As Nigeria prepares for the May 29 inauguration, president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of Lieut. Col. Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf as his Aide-de-Camp (ADC) designate. Yusuf brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served in sensitive positions in the Presidential Villa during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, where he honed his skills in intelligence, VIP protocol, and protection.

Yusuf’s Curriculum Vitae, which has been exclusively obtained, sheds light on the senior military officer’s impressive journey to the top of the Nigerian military ranks. After earning his Ordinary National Diploma in Computer Science from Offa Polytechnic in 2000, Yusuf enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Elect-Elect).

In 2004 and 2005, Yusuf attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the UK, an institution where all British Army officers are trained to lead their soldiers. Subsequently, he went on to complete military and intelligence training courses in Lagos, Kaduna, Mali, Pakistan, China, Israel, and the UK. Yusuf’s military training culminated in his obtaining a master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College, London in 2018, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the National Open University (NOUN).

Yusuf is also a multilingual officer, fluent in Yoruba, Hausa, English, and French. His military career has taken him to various parts of the world, where he has completed several notable courses, such as the Joint Information Course in Darfur, Sudan, the Basic Counter Terrorism Training in Kontagora, and the VIP Protection Leadership Training in Israel.
