Plateau State House of Assembly Complex Sealed Off Amidst Speakership Crisis

The Plateau State House of Assembly complex has recently been in the news as it has been sealed off by the state police command. This action may be attributed to the ongoing speakership crisis in the state.

As early as 5 am, a team of anti-riot policemen arrived at the Assembly complex and cordoned off the main entrance, leaving many curious onlookers wondering what might be happening inside.

According to a reliable source, the house is presently divided into two factions, each loyal to the current speaker Yakubu Sanda and the reinstated speaker Ayuba Abok, who was impeached in October 2021.

On Monday, a court ruling had reinstated Abok, and the following day, he made a bold move by storming the complex to take charge of the Assembly. This move might have triggered the sealing of the complex by the police command, as the situation is seen as volatile and may escalate into a full-blown crisis.

The sealing of the Assembly complex has raised many questions about the future of the state’s legislative activities and governance. It is hoped that the situation will be resolved amicably, and normalcy will be restored soon.
