Renowned Media Mogul and PDP Chieftain, Raymond Dokpesi, Passes Away at 71

Raymond Dokpesi, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics as a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the founder of DAAR Communications plc, has sadly passed away at the age of 71. The news was confirmed by a family member who spoke to THE WHISTLER on Monday, revealing that Dokpesi breathed his last at a hospital in Abuja.

According to the family source, who preferred to remain anonymous, Dokpesi had experienced a stroke shortly after the recent conclusion of the Ramadan fast and had been managing his health ever since. Over time, his condition required occupational therapy to assist with his daily activities, including walking exercises at the gym.

Tragically, during one of his routine gym sessions, an accident occurred that resulted in Dokpesi being electrocuted while using one of the gym’s equipment. This incident further exacerbated his health complications and ultimately led to his untimely demise. The Dokpesi family is expected to release an official statement regarding this unfortunate event in due course.

It is worth noting that in 2020, Raymond Dokpesi and several members of his family were hospitalized at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Thankfully, they were able to overcome the illness and recover.

Dokpesi’s contributions to the media landscape in Nigeria were substantial. He was the founder of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM, leaving a lasting imprint on the country’s broadcasting industry. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Director-General of Technical and Systems for Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Campaign Council, demonstrating his involvement in political circles.
