Uganda: State Minister Charles Okello Engola of Uganda Tragically Killed by Bodyguard Allegedly Over Unpaid Wages

Eyewitnesses have reported that the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officer who tragically took the life of State Minister Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola before taking his own was not hostile towards civilians. As he made his way from the Minister’s home in Kyanja to a nearby salon where he ended his own life, he reportedly asked civilians to get out of his way.

Reports from The Independent suggest that the soldier, Pt Wilson Sabiiti, had been expressing frustration about not being paid and mistreatment prior to the incident. It’s a tragic reminder of the importance of addressing issues like payment and working conditions for those who serve our country.
