Governor Nyesom Wike Declares Public Holiday for President-elect Tinubu’s Visit

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has announced a public holiday for Wednesday to welcome President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his two-day official visit to Rivers State. Tinubu will be commissioning the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta Flyover and the ultra-modern Magistrates’ Court Complex, Port Harcourt on Wednesday and Thursday.

In a state broadcast, Governor Wike revealed that Tinubu had expressed interest in commissioning strategic projects in Rivers State during his presidential campaign visit to the state. A formal invitation was sent to the President-elect after the general elections, which he accepted.

This will be Tinubu’s first official visit to any state since he emerged as the President-elect of Nigeria. Wike sees this as an honor to the government and people of Rivers State and urged all citizens to come out en masse to receive the President-elect and display the traditional Rivers hospitality.

To ensure a smooth reception, all shops and business premises along Rumuola to Rumuokwuta roads in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State shall remain closed from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023. The Governor also called on labor unions and security agencies to comply with this closure order.

Governor Wike urged Rivers people to give a warm welcome to the President-elect during his visit and to use this opportunity to showcase the state’s landmark projects to Nigeria and the world.
